Bloating
What it is: Bloating is a common digestive symptom where the stomach feels uncomfortably full, stretched, or tight. It is often accompanied by stomach rumbling, gas, or mild abdominal pain.
Common causes:
- Trapped gas from fizzy drinks or gas-producing foods
- Swallowing air while eating too quickly or chewing gum
- Constipation or slow bowel movements
- Hormonal changes during menstrual cycles
Self-care:
- Eat smaller, balanced meals and chew slowly with your mouth closed.
- Drink plenty of water and stay physically active to support digestion.
- Gently massage your stomach from right to left to release wind.
When to seek help: Go to a hospital immediately or call 102 if bloating occurs with severe, sudden abdominal pain, vomiting blood or coffee-ground material, or severe shortness of breath. Visit a health post, PHC, or hospital if bloating is continuous, or if you have blood in your stool, persistent vomiting, high fever, unexplained weight loss, or an abdominal swelling.
If symptoms suggest a serious emergency, call 102 for an ambulance where available.
