Skin Rash

What it is: A skin rash is an area of swollen, reddened, or irritated skin. It often causes itching or pain and can sometimes lead to bumps, blisters, or raw patches of skin.

Common causes:

  • Contact with irritating chemicals or everyday substances
  • Allergic reactions to specific environmental triggers or plants
  • Genetic factors that increase skin sensitivity

Self-care:

  • Apply mild moisturizers or soothing lotions to protect the skin
  • Use cool baths or over-the-counter anti-itch remedies like antihistamines if appropriate
  • Avoid scratching the area to reduce further irritation

When to seek help: Call 102 for an ambulance or go immediately to the nearest hospital if a rash occurs with severe allergic signs like breathing difficulty, facial swelling, a high sudden fever, or a stiff neck. Visit your local health post, PHC, or hospital if the rash is severe, painful, spreading rapidly, forming fluid-filled blisters, or failing to improve after several days.

If symptoms suggest a serious emergency, call 102 for an ambulance where available.
