Dizziness
What it is: Dizziness is a common sensation of feeling lightheaded, off-balance, faint, or experiencing a spinning feeling. It often resolves on its own as the body stabilizes.
Common causes:
- Standing up too quickly after sitting or lying down
- Dehydration or overheating
- Inner ear problems
- Stress, anxiety, or side effects from medications
Self-care:
- Lie down flat until the dizzy spell passes, then get up very slowly.
- Drink plenty of clean water and get adequate rest.
- Move carefully and avoid sudden bending, caffeine, alcohol, or operating machinery while feeling unsteady.
When to seek help:
Go immediately to the nearest hospital or call 102 if dizziness occurs alongside facial numbness, arm weakness, speech difficulty, or severe chest discomfort. Visit a health post or PHC if dizziness keeps recurring, causes fainting, or is accompanied by hearing loss or persistent ringing in your ears.
If symptoms suggest a serious emergency, call 102 for an ambulance where available.
