Symptoms

Nausea

What it is: Nausea is an uncomfortable feeling in the stomach that makes you feel as though you might vomit. It is a very common symptom that often goes away on its own without treatment.

Common causes: It can be triggered by digestive stomach bugs, food poisoning, acid reflux, or migraines. Other common triggers include motion sickness, early pregnancy, emotional stress, drinking alcohol, or side effects from certain medicines.

Self-care:

  • Get fresh air and take slow, regular sips of cold water, peppermint tea, or ginger drinks.
  • Eat small, light meals frequently instead of large, heavy meals, and avoid hot, fried, or strong-smelling foods.
  • Rest in a comfortable position, avoid tight clothing around the waist, and do not lie down immediately after eating.

When to seek help: Call 102 or go to the nearest hospital immediately if nausea occurs suddenly alongside heavy chest tightness, shortness of breath, or pain spreading to the arm, neck, back, or jaw. Visit a local health post or PHC if the feeling sick lasts more than a few days or repeatedly returns.

If symptoms suggest a serious emergency, call 102 for an ambulance where available.
