Headache
What it is: A headache is pain or discomfort felt in the head, scalp, or upper neck. Most headaches resolve on their own and are not a sign of a serious underlying health condition.
Common causes: Common triggers and contributing factors include:
- Dehydration or skipping regular meals
- Stress, fatigue, or staring at screens for extended periods
- Viral illnesses like a common cold or flu
- Alcohol intake or taking painkillers too frequently
Self-care:
- Drink plenty of water and maintain consistent meal habits.
- Get adequate rest and try relaxation techniques to reduce stress.
- Over-the-counter medication like paracetamol or ibuprofen may help ease pain.
When to seek help: Visit a local health post, primary healthcare centre (PHC), or hospital if your headaches worsen, recur regularly, or happen alongside vision problems or vomiting. Seek immediate emergency medical care or call 102 for an ambulance if a headache starts suddenly with extreme intensity, follows a recent head injury, or is accompanied by a stiff neck, high fever, confusion, seizures, or body weakness.
If symptoms suggest a serious emergency, call 102 for an ambulance where available.
